Husky Leadership Certificate...

"Breadth + Depth"

I wanted to participate in the Husky Leadership Certificate because I realized that going into my 3rd year at the UW I felt like I could not articulate my motivations for pursuing the various opportunities that have now ended up on my resume or display the common thread that runs through them. Through the exploration of my experiences and various competencies, and through conversations with my mentor, I have found that a theme of “Breadth + Depth” has emerged. Most apparently, the breadth of activities exemplify my various interests, affinity for taking risks, and desire to continually challenge myself. The depth of my involvement in many of these activities display the care and dedication with which I approach every single opportunity that I take.

“You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face…You must do the thing you think you cannot do” - Eleanor Roosevelt

My “a-ha” moment happened at the University of Washington before I officially began. At freshman orientation I vowed that I would take my education, both personal and academic, into my own hands in order to develop myself as much as possible into a well-rounded and interesting person. In the words of Eleanor Roosevelt, I did the things that I thought I could not do. I pursued things that seemed interesting and challenging with enthusiasm and positivity. As a result, what you see before you is a portfolio that shares the breadth and depth my challenges, triumphs, inspiration, motivation, beloved communities, and learning experiences.
